Student loan debt in the United States is approaching $1,000,000,000,000.00 (that’s a trillion). The above article makes a great argument for a ‘Government Bailout’ of the U.S. students currently struggling beneath the weight of having to pay back 2 or 3 times the amount of what their education cost them. Especially as bachelor’s and master’s become increasingly common and less valued by major employers.
I was fortunate to come out of college with no student debt. I’m one of the few people I know who was this fortunate. I can not imagine starting my professional life, my personal life, hell, my ‘life’ struggling underneath $30,000 worth of debt, let alone multiple-hundreds of thousands. How are we expected to afford new cars, televisions, and houses when we can’t even pay the cost of educating ourselves? How are we expected to put this slumping economy on our back when companies (like Apple) have more cash on hand then the U.S. Government?
I am fortunate enough to be working within a small, special skill field. Competition is not as fierce, and I have no dreams of climbing the corporate ladder. Instead, I want to own my own business. I want to be the boss. This is the attitude many people are adopting in today’s financial uncertainty, and it’s a worth while one. America was built on the back of economic freedom, the ability to own and operate whatever business you want.
Lately we have forgot that in favor of climbing the corporate ladder, hoping to increase our trickle to a full stream.
Intolerance is ridiculous, it is virtually the sole reason that I identify more as a Democrat than as a Republican, even though my politics often lean more towards the base values of our right-leaning party (or often more Libertarian). The fact that, in general, the Republican party is intolerant of such things as homosexuality and other religions besides Christianity infuriates me.
But more and more recently I have noticed a change occurring. Liberals have become just as intolerant of the Conservatives as vice versa. That is just ridiculous. You can not fight intolerance with intolerance, that is just as ignorant. America was built on the idea of freedom, for every man (and woman). It has delineated into two political parties (and political ideologies) that can not even tolerate the other. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, even the people who don’t share yours.
Intolerance is unacceptable.
Have I mentioned how fucking excited I am for the new Avalanches album to come out? God damn I want to hear that shit.

So I’m making some sort of headway professionally. As in: at least I’m getting interviews.
Although still frustrating, it is nice to be getting some sort of feedback from the ‘job world’. I also got a position rating google searches, though I’m not really too sure how much I want to work at it (I suppose I will just to make some extra cash). I’m feeling rather isolated from the world without having a job to go to everyday, or school/class to show up to. But that will all change soon enough.
Oh! I’m also working as “Producer” for a micro/indy film shooting here in Greensboro. So if you’d like experience and are willing to work for cheap, let me know! I’d love to hire you.
One of my favorite magazines, and things to follow on Twitter, is the Economist. Their articles and blogs are so very poignant and insightful, though they are also occasionally depressing. For instance: gloomy Economic forcasts for the next few months means me finding a job is going to be very hard. However, hopefully the positions I’m interviewing for work out! It would be awesome to have a job at which I can develop my skills professionally while getting paid beaucoup dollar bucks.
Ultimately my dream is to have a feature film of my own done within the next 9 years. Before I’m 30 (Edit: Actually I’m 23, so I guess it’s next 7 years, or before I’m 32, whichever is the correct answer)! Is that even possible? Short term (as in the next 5 or so years), I would like to be able to start my own web content production company. Supplying blog articles, videos, design, or whatever else is needed for small businesses.
The main trouble is that if I start it one place, it’s very difficult to leave a client/network base behind and move into a new (maybe larger, more competitive) market.
Anyways, that’s where life is for me now. Where’s your life?

I need to find my rhythym.
Since graduating I’ve felt out of sync, lost, whatever. I have known nothing in life but year in and year out of going to school. How can somebody live 22 years and only know school? I think about it, and I’m confused. Wasn’t school supposed to prepare me for life? Wasn’t school supposed to give me the education I need to survive in this world?
What’s the famous Mark Twain quote? Didn’t he say something like “Never let your schooling interfere with your education.”
That’s something I learned in school.
I’m well schooled.
